Where a 16x25x1 filter fits
It is common in wall-mounted returns, hall returns and furnace closets, especially in homes built before today's more standard sizing. Because the shape is long and narrow, the filter is easy to install the wrong way, so look for the airflow arrow.
Choosing MERV 8 or MERV 13 in 16x25x1
A narrow return has less area, so a very restrictive filter can choke it. MERV 8 is a safe default for most homes with this return. If you want MERV 13, confirm that the system and the return can handle it. If your return is slightly different, a custom size avoids a loose fit.
